It is the end of November and it seems Christmas decorations go up earlier and earlier every year! You probably noticed all over your Insta and FB feed, people are already decorating for the holidays. Diwali kicked off the season of lights and now the holidays are in full swing.
Now time for one of the biggest questions... Are you a fake tree or a real tree person? We know this is a timeless debate! Personally, I'm team real tree over here! There are many great places to get your tree around the bay area but have you visited a tree farm? Make a day trip out of it, pack some hot chocolate, and get out of the house. Below is a list of tree farms for those of you feeling up for an adventure and new traditions!
Alhambra Christmas Tree Farm Since 1969 this farm is a family run Christmas Tree farm located in Alhambra Valley. They have a large selection of trees in assorted sizes up to 12 ft. tall. Complimentary Popcorn and Apple Cider available. Open 7 days a week.
Castro Valley Christmas Tree Farm Located in the beautiful East Bay Hills just north of Castro Valley, Castro Valley Christmas Tree Farm offers a unique outdoor experience where you can not only cut down a fresh "Choose & Cut" Christmas tree, but also enjoy nature at its finest! Open Friday - Sunday.
Battaglia Ranch All choose and cut trees are $70. The Battaglia Ranch Christmas Tree Farm Train and Reindeer rides are a family tradition. Come and enjoy a 10 minute fully narrated train ride around the 20 acres of Battaglia Ranch. The 1946 Ford powered engine has been featured in many social events in the South Bay. There is no charge for children under the age of 3 (lap children) all other riders are $4. You can purchase tickets at the Gift Shop. The Gift Shop has Hot Coffee, Hot Cocoa, and a new delicious Mulling spice, an assortment of cold drinks, and packaged snacks.
Black Road Christmas Tree Farms All the trees cost $80 and are cultured and free of chemicals. More than 40,000 trees are now grown in the fields of Black Road Christmas Tree Farms. With three farms to choose from, there are plenty of trees for everyone. Note, only cash and checks are accepted.
Four Winds Christmas Tree Ranch Located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, this farm has trees up to 16ft! They provide the twine and saw and have a picnic area if you want to pack your own food. They open Thanksgiving through Christmas, but always call first to confirm hours!
JS Tabacco Ranch - Christmas trees-you choose and you cut, Christmas wreaths, Christmas boughs, garlands, mistletoe, trees baled, saws provided, free hot coffee, free hot chocolate, free hot cider, porta-potties, picnic area. Trees range in price from $60-$70.
Mountain Charlie Ranch Come to one of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains’ finest choose-and-cut tree farms. They have many types and sizes of trees - up to 16 feet tall and some bigger! They provide the saw and twine, as well as netting. Available on the weekends: Candy Canes, Hot Chocolate, Apple Cider, and Firewood while it lasts. Any tree $80 tax included, Cash or check only.
Norquist Tree Farm - You choose and you cut, saws provided, Christmas trees. In order to manage inventory, please sign up for a time slot in advance here, limited times remain.
Patchen Christmas Tree Farms Choose & Cut farms are all about the “experience”. Breathe in some clear, cool mountain air and take home a tree full of that pungent forest aroma. They also have a gift shop for additional décor items and stocking stuffers!
ALWAYS call the farm BEFORE YOU GO – many farms and lots are selling out of trees early – Call to confirm their supply and their hours as they can change due to weather and demand.
