What Color Lightbulb Should You Buy?

It's safe to say the lightbulb choices have grown over the years. You used to be able to go to the store, find the correct wattage and shape of the bulb you were looking for and in no time your light was working again. Lightbulbs have traditionally had yellow undertones to them. Now you have warm light, daylight, cool light, color changing, and the list goes on. But how do you know which color light is best? Well, it depends, but let's take a look at some guidelines you can use the next time you need to purchase a new bulb.

Warm White

Warm lighting has lower levels of blue light and promotes relaxation. These are perfect light bulbs to use in night lamps, reading lights as they will not affect your sleep patterns as much. Many people also use them in kitchens and bathrooms.

Soft White

Soft white bulbs are warm and yellow giving off a warm and cozy feeling. They are ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, closets and under counters.

Cool Light

Cool white light contains more blue light and looks brighter to the eye often making you feel more energized. This makes them ideal for task lighting such as in a craft room or workshop or a kitchen with chrome fixtures.

Daylight

Daylight bulbs emit a bright, cool light that is close to the sun's natural light. They are ideal for focused task lighting in rooms like kitchens and bathrooms and other areas that may not receive much sunlight.

Smart Bulbs

Instead of buying bulbs specific to a room or activity, you can change the color of the lights as needed, even multiple times throughout the day at the touch of your fingertips. For example, you can have the light set to a daylight color to read at during the day and a warm light to complete a puzzle at night.

Selecting the correct bulb is important as it can help maximize your use of space but it is often a personal preference. Think of what you normally do in that space and buy bulbs for that purpose. If you use a space for multiple purposes it may be worth it to purchase smart bulbs.
